Dell Launches New Tablet For Professionals
Dell has expanded its Tablet range by launching a new product 'Latitude ST'. The Tablet runs on the Windows 7 operating system and the company is targeting it at the professionals segment.
The Tablet has a 10.1inch WXGA LED capacitive multi-touch display (1280×800 pixel resolution) with Corning Gorilla glass. Along with touch input, Dell has also provided a digital pen for better precision with the Tablet.
As far as the operating system goes, consumers have an option of choosing between Windows 7 Home Premium, Professional and Ultimate OS. It is powered by a 1.5GHz Intel Atom (Z670) processor, Mobile Intel SM35 Chipset and has 2GB of RAM. The internal memory of the device is 32GB (Solid State hard drive) which is upgradable up to 128GB SSD. Intel has also provided the graphics in the form of Intel Graphics Media Accelerator (GMA) 600.
On the security front, Dell has provided features such as data encryption and remote data deletion that will keep users data secure. The Tablet is available in India at a starting price of Rs 36,000 while the docking station independently costs Rs 8,000.
The company has also provided a Stylus and an optional docking station which features USB, HDMI and RJ45 inputs, so users can add a mouse, keyboard, projector etc.
It comes with a 5 mega pixel rear camera and a front facing video webcam that can record high definition (HD) videos (720p). On the connectivity front, the Tablet has Bluetooth and Wi-Fi and has a USB 2.0 port, a HDMI port and a SD memory card reader. Additionally, Dell has provided an optional docking station that also has 3 USB 2.0 ports, Gigabit LAN and a HDMI port.
The dimensions of the device are 270mm x 15mm x 186mm and its weight is 816 grams. The company claims that the Tablet offers up to 6 hours of battery life. Additionally, the Latitude ST can also be configured with a full suite of Windows Office business applications.
The Tablet will compete in the professionals segment with MSI's WindPad 110W that is priced around Rs 30,000 and HP's recently announced Slate 2 that should cost around Rs 36,000. All three tablets function on the Windows 7 OS and have 2GB of RAM. While the HP Slate 2 matches Latitute ST in terms of processor power, both HP and MSI lose out on internal memory and camera. Additionally, while both Dell and MSI have opted for a 10inch screen size, HP is hoping its customers will be happy with an 8.9inch display.
All things considered, Dell definitely has the upper hand (at least on paper) over its competitors.
