Casting Vote Online Is Unsafe: India Chief Election Commissioner
Casting your vote online in India will make the entire democratic process of voting an unsafe venture, according to the country's Chief Election Commissioner.
The Times of India has reported S Y Quraishi voicing his fears about the anonymity of the web when it comes to online voting. He said, "Technology is not an issue for implementing e-voting. But it is not feasible in India at this point of time. How do we know who is voting on whose behalf? It is not possible to provide security for every voter with a gunman behind him/her. Online voting is not good, though it looks simpler."
This news comes at a time when Anna Hazare and his supporters are pushing for an option to choose none of the elected officials while casting your vote. Identification of citizens and voters is also set to improve with the $1.6 billion unique identification initiative Aadhaar by the government which is currently extending the enrollment and verification net to include mobile retail outlets across India. India has more than 75 crore voters.
