PlanetM To Retail Mobile Apps In Stores
After handsets, music retail store PlanetM by Videocon group is now planning to sell mobile phone applications at over 200 stores across India.
PlanetM has partnered with Bangalore-based SmartSky Electronics & Research Pvt. Ltd, a sister company that designs smart phones and Tablets. SmartSky has developed apps of its own such as Smart Profile, Smart Calendar, Smart Organizers and Smart Medical History Tracker. SmartSky will rope in app vendors and developers for PlanetM.
Apparently the service will launch next month and PlanetM will sell both free and paid apps for all the major smartphone platforms, according to The Mobile Indian.
With offline retailing, app developers find another source of revenue besides app stores and are slowly inching their way out of the clutches of operator decks. The global mobile application industry is estimated to grow from $2 billion in the year 2010 to $30 billion by 2015, according to market research and analysis firm IDC.
