Amazon Pushes Music Collection Online With Digital Music Locker

Amazon has launched a digital locker music service that encourages users to store their music on the Web. While music files can be stored as part of personal cloud services like DropBox or Carbonite, Amazon has introduced a Cloud Player for the Web and Android which makes playing stored music a breeze from anywhere in the world and on any device.

Google is also believed to be working on a similar technology, and has already started testing Google Music internally, reports CNET, but Amazon has beaten the search giant and happens to be a pioneer to launch such as service.

Bill Carr, vice president of Movies and Music at Amazon, said that according to user feedback the company received, customers did not want to download music to their work computers or phones because they found it difficult to move music around to different devices. The Cloud Player, however, addresses this very issue and makes life easier for music aficionados.

Amazon's Cloud Drive comes with 5 GB of free storage, which means you have the space to store around 1,000 songs. Users can also upload video files, pictures, or documents. Paid plans are available for storage up to 1,000 GB. But the facility is yet to be introduced in India, where the company has three development centers located in Bangalore, Chennai and Hyderabad. Currently, Amazon is available in Canada, China, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, and UK, besides USA.
