Operators Fail To Meet Roll Out Obligations; Receive Notices From DoT
After Etisalat and Idea Cellular, five more telcos will now receive notices from the Indian government for not rolling out their services after acquiring licences.
Under the rules, telecom operators are required to set up networks within one year from the date of allocation of spectrum.
In December, operator SSTL which offers services in 12 telecom circles, also received a notice.
Now, Aircel, Videocon, Unitech Wireless, Reliance Communications and Loop Telecom will receive show cause notices from the department, according to the Telegraph.
"Two notices had been issued and 20 more notices will be issued soon for cancellation of licences for not meeting roll-out obligations," R Chandrashekhar, secretary, DoT, according to Economic Times.
Already, the telcos have paid over Rs 300 crore in penalties to the government.
