Draft Of National Frequency Allocation Plan For Spectrum Floated

The Wireless Planning and Coordination (WPC) arm of the telecom ministry plans to reserve spectrum so Indian telecom companies can develop wireless technologies.

The ministry will reserving 40 Mhz of spectrum and will benefit companies such as Shyam Group and Tejas Networks, Business Line reported.

The WPC controls spectrum usage in the country. It has floated a draft National Frequency Allocation plan where it has selected airwaves in four frequency bands including 900Mhz, 1,800 Mhz and 1,900 Mhz bands.

This is expected to aid in the development of local wireless technologies by Indian firms as they will no longer need to import network technology from large European firms such as Ericsson or Nokia Siemens Networks.
