Google has formally launched the Gemini App in India on Tuesday. With this launch, the Gemini app and Gemini Advanced (Gemini 1.5 Pro model), will be available in nine Indian languages. It includes languages such as Hindi, Bangla, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Tamil, Telugu, and Urdu.

In a blog announcing the availability of the Gemini App, Google said that the launch in the country’s ‘strong mobile-first culture’ marks a step forward in building ‘a truly conversational, multimodal, and helpful AI assistant’. Gemini will also be available in Google Messages to help users draft messages, plan events, or brainstorm ideas without leaving the Messages app. Currently, only available in English, the feature will be subsequently rolled out to other languages on select devices.

Additionally, Gemini Advanced, which has one million token context window, will enable features such as uploading multiple large documents and emails, obtaining their summaries, personalised feedback, and actionable insights. Further, users can also perform complex data analysis and data visualisation using data from the uploaded spreadsheet.

Android users can download the Gemini app or opt-in through Google Assistant. Users will be able to access voice features attached to Google Assistant through the app, including setting timers, making calls, and setting reminders. The app will be available for iOS users from the Google app in the next few weeks, the company said.

To be sure, last week at Apple’s annual developer conference, the iPhone maker announced a partnership with Microsoft-backed OpenAI. This collaboration brings ChatGPT to a new version of voice assistant Siri. The updated Siri will function as an AI chatbot, able to receive written instructions and take actions within apps based on voice prompts. Siri will also be able to search through emails, texts, and photos to find specific information. Users will access ChatGPT's capabilities on Apple devices through iOS 18, iPadOS 18, and macOS Sequoia by later this year.
